ABC Orders Diablo Cody Comedy Pilot, Three Female-Driven Dramas

Cody: Glamour Magazine/YouTube

Diablo Cody is headed back to television. After the premature cancellation of “One Mississippi,” the dramedy she co-created with Tig Notaro, ABC has ordered Cody’s pilot “Most Likely To.” In addition to the high school reunion multi-cam comedy, the network also ordered three female-led drama pilots, per Variety.

“In high school, Liz Cooney had everything and Markie McQueen had nothing. Twenty years later, they’re reunited under the same roof as single moms and unlikely housemates,” Variety says of “Most Likely To.” Cody, who has an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, wrote the pilot and will exec produce with Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti.

Crime drama “The Fix” is from writer-executive producers Elizabeth Craft, Sarah Fain, and Marcia Clark and focuses on a prosecutor drawn back into the biggest loss of her career. Maya Travis “has left Los Angeles for a quiet life in rural Oregon. Eight years after her devastating defeat, the murderer strikes again, forcing Maya to return to Los Angeles to confront him one more time. Will she play by the rules, or will she do whatever it takes to get him behind bars?” “The Fix” looks like it could parallel the O.J. Simpson case from the early ’90s, on which Clark served as prosecutor.

The other dramas, an untitled pilot and “Staties,” are both about women in law enforcement. From writer-EP Pam Veasey, the untitled project follows five African-American sisters who all serve on the NYPD, “as they face the challenges of their high-risk jobs while juggling the responsibilities of marriage, motherhood and family.” Regina King’s Royal Ties and Robin Roberts’ Rock’n Robin Productions are producing.

“Staties” is about “hard-charging NYPD detective, Eliza Cortez, is banished to the boonies after a high-profile mistake and is paired with a new partner, Oregon State Trooper Sam King.” Maniac Productions’ Christina Davis is among the pilot’s exec producers.

In other TV news, CBS ordered three pilots created by women, and reboots of “Murphy Brown,” “Charmed,” “Cagney and Lacey,” and a gender-swapped “Greatest American Hero” are all in the works.
