Aidy Bryant is taking “Shrill” to the small screen. Lindy West’s non-fiction feminist book was optioned by Elizabeth Banks back in December 2016, and now the project has landed at Hulu with “SNL’s” Bryant set to star in the single-camera comedy series that’s currently in development. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.

Penned by Bryant, West, and Ali Rushfield (“Love”), the adaptation is said to tell “the story of a fat woman who wants to change her life, but not her body.”

Banks is among “Shrill’s” executive producers.

Published in May 2016, “Shrill: Notes From a Loud Woman” saw former Jezebel blogger West tackling topics such as online harassment, self-esteem, and prejudice against fat people. West is now a contributing Op-Ed writer for The New York Times, where she’s recently written about abortion rights, quitting Twitter due to trolls, and transforming the power structure of Hollywood.

Bryant can currently be seen in Amy Schumer-starrer “I Feel Pretty.” Co-written and co-directed by Abby Kohn, the comedy follows a woman suffering from a lack of confidence whose life changes when a Soul Cycle accident makes her see herself in a new light.

“I’m very proud to be in a movie [that] tells the story of someone who believes confidence is directly tied to looks but learns that confidence comes from within,” Bryant has said. “It’s a movie I wish I could have seen when I was 14. She acknowledged that she’s been sent “all kinds of demeaning scripts where [her] body is the punchline” and chooses projects carefully to avoid perpetuating that kind of message.

Bryant’s other acting credits include “Girls” and “Horace and Pete.”
