Alicia Vikander-Starrer “Tulip Fever” Gets a New Release Date and Trailer

“Tulip Fever”: The Weinstein Company

We’re finally going to get to see “Tulip Fever.” The Alicia Vikander-led romantic drama was originally scheduled to hit theaters last July, but the film’s distributor, The Weinstein Company, pushed back its release until this February, and just days before it was set to bow, “Tulip Fever’s” release was once again postponed. Hopefully the third time’s a charm. The film will — at long last — open in theaters August 25.

Based on Deborah Moggach’s 2007 book of the same name, “Tulip Fever” is set in 17th century Amsterdam and centers on Sophia (Vikander), a young woman married to a much older man (Christoph Waltz, “Django Unchained”). The trailer for the film suggests that Sophia is unhappy in her relationship, and she falls hard and fast for an artist (Dane DeHaan, “Kill Your Darlings”) commissioned to paint her portrait. The two begin an affair, and decide to gamble on the market for tulip bulbs with the hopes of making enough money to run away together.

Vikander won an Oscar in 2016 for her role in “The Danish Girl.” That same year, she launched a production company, Vikarious Productions. The “Ex Machina” actress will topline her company’s first film, Lisa Langseth’s “Euphoria,” a drama about two estranged sisters. Eva Green (“Penny Dreadful”) and Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years”) co-star. Vikander is currently filming the upcoming “Tomb Raider” reboot, due March 16, 2018.
