All-Female Comedy Series “Baroness von Sketch Show” Is Coming to IFC

“Baroness von Sketch Show”

Finally, something to fill the “Garfunkel and Oates”-shaped void in our lives. Per The Hollywood Reporter, IFC is adding the all-female “Baroness von Sketch Show” to its lineup. The first two seasons of the sketch comedy series, which originally aired on CBC in Canada, will broadcast on the AMC Networks-owned channel this summer.

Created by writer-performers Meredith MacNeill, Carolyn Taylor, Aurora Browne, and Jennifer Whalen, “Baroness von Sketch Show” features sketches with a feminist bent comparable to “Inside Amy Schumer.” According to THR, the series “looks at everything from bachelorette parties and soccer moms to office sexual politics and women-focused marketing.”

Frantic Films is producing “Baroness” and Banijay Rights is overseeing its international distribution.

“We are delighted that ‘Baroness von Sketch Show’ is finding as prestigious a US home as IFC,” Andreas Lemos, Banijay Rights’ vp of North America acquisition/sales, commented. “It’s not often that a show has you both keeling over with laughter and questioning the status quo. We are thrilled that American audiences will now get to witness the Baronesses’ unique, provocative, and hilarious brand of comedy.”

“Baroness von Sketch Show” recently picked up several Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Variety or Sketch Comedy and Best Writing in Variety or Sketch Comedy.

If you can’t wait until summer to watch these hilarious ladies, the Baronesses have plenty of other projects you can check out. MacNeill acts and writes for “This Hour Has 22 Minutes,” a comedy talk show that satirizes Canadian politics. Taylor previously wrote for “This Hour” and “Just for Laughs: All-Access.” Browne wrote and starred in the TV shorts “Newborn Moms” and has had guest roles in “Orphan Black” and “Man Seeking Woman.” Whalen served as head writer of “This Hour” in 2007 and 2008. She’s also written for “InSecurity” and “The Ron James Show.”
