Amy Adams to Receive Chairman’s Award at Palm Springs International Film Fest

Amy Adams in “Arrival”

Five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams will be presented with the Chairman’s Award at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) for her performance in “Arrival.” She’ll receive the honor at the fest’s Film Awards Gala, held January 2.

“Throughout her career, Amy Adams has continuously challenged herself with complex roles,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “This is reaffirmed in her most recent project, ‘Arrival,’ where she anchors the film with an award-winning performance as a prominent linguist, Dr. Louise Banks, as she attempts to communicate with creatures in one of a dozen spacecrafts that visit Earth. It is our honor to present the Chairman’s Award to Amy Adams.”

This isn’t the first time Adams’ work has been recognized by PSIFF. She previously won the Spotlight Award for her performance in “Doubt,” and was honored with the Ensemble Performance Award for her role in “American Hustle.”

Adams received Oscar nominations for her performances in “American Hustle,” “The Master,” “The Fighter,” “Doubt,” and “Junebug.” The nominations for the 2017 Oscars won’t be announced until January 24, but Adams is considered a contender for her role in “Arrival.” She’s also earning rave reviews for her portrayal of an unhappy art dealer reflecting on her past in this year’s “Nocturnal Animals.”

Up next for Adams is “Sharp Objects,” HBO’s TV adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s 2006 novel of the same name. Adams will play a reporter who returns to her hometown to cover the murder of two pre-teen girls. Marti Noxon (“UnREAL”) is serving as showrunner.

Previously announced honorees attending PSIFF’s Film Awards Gala include Nicole Kidman, “Loving” star Ruth Negga, and the cast of “Hidden Figures.” PSIFF runs from January 2–16.

“Arrival” and “Nocturnal Animals” are in theaters now.
