Amy Brenneman to Star in CBS Internet Journalism Drama “The Get”

Amy Brenneman in “The Leftovers”: HBO

Amy Brenneman is returning to CBS. The “Judging Amy” star will topline the network’s pilot “The Get,” about “a team of tireless Internet journalists who pursue and expose stories of injustice using their unconventional investigative techniques in today’s anything-goes world of reporting,” Deadline writes.

Brenneman will take on the main character, Ellen, a journalist “who has been known to push boundaries in order to find the truth.” Written by Bridget Carpenter (“11.22.63”), “The Get” co-stars Brad Garrett (“Fargo”), Emayatzy Corinealdi (Ava DuVernay’s “Middle of Nowhere”), newcomer Alex Fitzalan, Jeananne Goossen (“Nashville”), and Michael Rady (“UnREAL”).

According to Deadline, Carpenter serves as showrunner and executive producer on “The Get.” The pilot was directed by James Strong, also an exec producer.

Brenneman currently stars on HBO’s “The Leftovers,” a dark drama about the aftermath of a Rapture-like event in which two percent of the world’s population vanished into thin air. Co-starring Justing Theroux (“The Girl on the Train”), Carrie Coon (“Gone Girl”), and Liv Tyler (“Lord of the Rings” franchise), the series’ third and final season begins airing April 16.

The actress’ other credits include six seasons of “Judging Amy,” a multi-generational family drama which Brenneman co-created. Brenneman played Amy Gray, a family court judge living in Hartford, Connecticut with her mother and daughter. She also portrayed Dr. Violet Turner in Shonda Rhimes’ “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff, “Private Practice,” from 2007 to 2013.
