Anne Hathaway Bringing Stage Role in “Grounded” To the Big Screen

Anne Hathaway in “Grounded”: The Public Theater

Anne Hathaway is adapting a movie version of the play “Grounded,” according to Variety.

In 2015, she appeared in a New York production of the single-actor drama at the Public Theater, which was directed by Julie Taymor. Her performance earned her a nomination for a Critics Circle Award.

According to Variety, “Hathaway was so enthusiastic about the material that she locked up the film rights before signing on for the play.”

“Grounded” tells the story of a conflicted American Air Force pilot tasked with operating an unmanned drone.

Hathaway will produce “Grounded” with Entertainment 360’s Suzan Bymel and Ben Forkner as well as Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, which is providing financing. The company’s president of production, Carla Hacken, worked with Hathaway on “The Devil Wears Prada,” “Bride Wars,” and “Love and Other Drugs.” No word on whether or not Taymor will also direct the film.

Hathaway will next be seen reprising her role of the White Queen in “Alice Through the Looking Glass” when the blockbuster opens May 27.
