Apply Now: 2018 Fox Directors Lab

Liz Meriwether, creator and director of Fox’s “New Girl”: ST Media/YouTube

The 2018 Fox Directors Lab (FDL) is now accepting applications. Launched to support TV directors with diverse voices, backgrounds, and life experiences, the initiative is highly selective and limited to experienced helmers. The goal of FDL is to “create a strong pipeline of well-rounded talent for potential staffing on Fox television shows.”

Six to seven directors will participate in a four-week curriculum with an emphasis on professional development, mentorship, and the business side of directing.

Every director will have the opportunity to shadow on one of Fox’s TV shows.

Application requirements include — but are not limited to — original samples of work, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement.

The DGA’s 2016–17 TV Director Diversity Report found that ethnic minorities directed 22 percent of all episodes and women directed 21 percent. These percentages are all-time highs, but it’s clear that there’s still a long way to go towards equality in the directors’ chair. Initiatives such as FDL aim to shift these numbers.

Head over to the Lab’s website for application requirements, details about eligibility, and to apply. FDL is accepting applications until May 14, 2018.
