‘Bad Moms’ Gets New Title and Cast; Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Christina Applegate On Board

A moms-gone-wild project has undergone a makeover with a new title and cast.

Previously named “Bad Moms,” the currently untitled comedy project is slated to star Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Christina Applegate. Leslie Mann was previously attached as the lead, with Judd Apatow to produce.

The plot remains the same: An overachieving mom with a picture-perfect life finds her facade beginning to wear thin. She and two other burnt-out moms try to leave their worries behind by burying their maternal identities and chasing freedom and fun. Their antics offend the delicate sensibilities of the PTA’s Queen Bee and her inner circle, leading to a feud between the rival women.

A surprising duo is behind the women-centric film, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, who previously wrote “The Hangover,” which wasn’t exactly female-friendly. They also created the short-lived ABC series “Mixology.” The show was panned by critics, especially for its depiction of women. Vulture went so far as to write, “It doesn’t quite endorse rape, but it certainly has no problem with rape.” Yikes. Here’s hoping Lucas and Moore offer more nuanced characterizations of women in the upcoming female-ensemble comedy, which STX Entertainment has taken the reins of.

“Jon Lucas and Scott Moore are masters at creating relatable characters that audiences instantly embrace, and then putting them in hilarious, real-life situations for great comedic results,” said STX’s president and CCO Oren Aviv. “This film provides the rare opportunity for a half-dozen strong female lead roles, and we are thrilled to have assembled an exceptional cast led by Mila Kunis, Christina Applegate and Kristen Bell. We can’t wait to start production and be part of the magic this team will bring to the screen.”
