Brie Larson to Make Feature Directorial Debut with “Unicorn Store”

Brie Larson in “Trainwreck”

Brie Larson is having a banner 2016. After winning the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in “Room” earlier this year, Larson was recently announced as taking on the role of Captain Marvel in Marvel Studios first female-led superhero film. Now, as The Hollywood Reporter writes, Larson is heading to the director’s chair.

Larson will make her directorial debut with the indie comedy “Unicorn Store,” in which she’ll also star and co-produce. As THR reports, the film is, “Based on an original screenplay by Samantha McIntyre, [and] the story tells of a woman named Kit, who, after moving back in with her parents, receives a mysterious invitation to a store that will test her ideas of what it really means to grow up.”

Though this will be Larson’s debut feature, it won’t be her first time directing. She previously co-wrote and co-directed the short film, “The Arm,” which won the jury prize at Sundance in 2012.

But before Larson directs or steps into her Captain Marvel cape, she will be seen in the upcoming action monster movie “Kong: Skull Island,” which hits theaters next March. Also upcoming is the drama “The Glass Castle” and crime thriller “Free Fire.”

In the meantime, Larson is hard at work on research for her role as Captain Marvel, as she made clear on her Instagram.
