Carol Burnett’s New Show Gets Pilot Order from ABC

Carol Burnett in “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”: The Hallmark Channel

We may be welcoming Carol Burnett back to the small screen. Her new comedy project, “Household Name,” has snagged a formal pilot pickup from ABC, Variety reports. Burnett toplines the potential series as well as executive produces. Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”) is also serving as one of “Household Name’s” executive producers.

According to Variety, “Household Name” follows “a family who has an opportunity to buy the house of their dreams, but under extremely abnormal circumstances: they must live with the previous owner, an eccentric, larger-than-life actress, played by Burnett.” The show was created by Michael Saltzman (“Halt and Catch Fire”).

“The Carol Burnett Show” ran from 1967 to 1978 on CBS and made Burnett a household name. Variety cited the variety show one of the 25 series that changed television.

Burnett has six Emmy Awards from a whopping 22 nominations. An inductee to the Television Hall of Fame, she has a Peabody Award, five Golden Globe Awards, Crystal and Lucy Awards from Women in Film, and many other trophies to her name. In 2013, Burnett received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, one of the highest honors for a comedian.

In January of last year, Poehler and her frequent collaborator Tina Fey presented Burnett with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the SAG Awards.

“We watched Carol with our moms, and our moms taught us 90 percent of what we needed to know to be the kind of women that we are today, and the other 10 percent is Carol,” Poehler said during the ceremony. “We love her and we thank her.”

The trailblazer, however, has said that Poehler and Fey would have been just fine without her: “My feeling is that if I had never been born, those women like Tina and Amy would still be doing what they’re doing today,” she commented in an interview.

In any case, Burnett and Poehler are a match made in heaven and we’re hoping that “Household Name” gets ordered to series so we can see their collaboration come to light.
