“Carol” Screenwriter Phyllis Nagy to Adapt Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta Film

“Carol” screenwriter Phyllis Nagy has signed on to adapt Patricia Cornwell’s untitled Kay Scarpetta film for Fox 2000, THR writes. The character has appeared in two-dozen bestselling books, the first of which was 1990s “Postmortem,” and the most recent being this year’s “Chaos.”

The character of Kay Scarpetta was inspired by former Virginia Chief Medical Examiner Marcella Farinelli Fierro, MD. Scarpetta’s investigations make use of forensic technology.

This will be a great opportunity for any actress who takes the iconic role on, especially considering the franchise potential. Angelina Jolie was once attached to the crime thriller, but there’s no set star as of now.

Nagy was nominated for an Academy Award this year for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Carol,” which was an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s “The Price of Salt.” She also penned HBO’s “Mrs. Harris.”
