Charlotte Rampling To Star in Adaptation of Jane Austen’s Unfinished Novel ‘Sanditon’

Charlotte Rampling has booked a new gig. The British actress, who will be competing for the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in “45 Years” later this month, will star in “Sanditon.” The film is an adaptation of a never-before dramatized Jane Austen novel.

“Sanditon” was published posthumously. When Austen died in 1817 she had written only the first eleven chapters of the story which, at the time, was titled “The Brothers.”

The novel follows heroine Charlotte Heywood, who is invited to visit Sanditon, a former fishing village her host dreams of transforming into a trendy seaside resort. Rampling will portray Lady Denham, a twice-widowed businesswoman living in the village.

Goldcrest Film will handle sales and finance on the project.

“Charlotte Rampling is responsible for so many indelible performances; she is perfect for the crucial role of the scheming Lady Denham,” said Pascal Degove, managing director at Goldcrest Films. “This is a genuinely fresh take on a well-loved genre — we expect enormous excitement from cinemagoers and distributors alike.”

Production is expected to kick off in summer 2016.

We will be seeing a lot of Rampling over the coming year — according to IMDb, the four-time Cesar nominee will appear in five films scheduled for release in 2016.
