Cindy Chupack’s Directorial Debut to Star Allison Janney and Susan Sarandon

Cindy Chupack, the two-time Emmy-winning writer for Sex and the City and Modern Family, will make her feature directorial debut with the mom com Whatever Makes You Happy.

Susan Sarandon and Allison Janney will play two of the three empty-nesters at the heart of this film about older women.

Here’s the film description from the press release:

Suburban mothers Helen, Carol, and Gillian have been friends since their 28-year-old sons were in grade school together. Now, the boys all live in New York City, never call their mothers, and seem to have no sense of direction or responsibility. Feeling marginalized and forgotten, the women impulsively decide to pay their sons an unannounced visit in the city in an effort to make their sons love them again. What they discover is that their sons’ lives may not be the only ones that need fixing.

Chupack also wrote the script, based on the novel by William Sutcliffe. She is the best-selling author of the comic memoir The Longest Date: Life as a Wife.

Shooting will begin next summer.
