Connie Britton Will Topline and EP First Season of Bravo Anthology “Dirty John”

Britton in “American Horror Story”: PRASHANT GUPTA

Connie Britton has booked yet another TV project. The “Friday Night Lights” alumna has signed on to star and executive produce Season 1 of “Dirty John,” Bravo’s upcoming true crime anthology series, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

Based on Los Angeles Times writer Chris Goffard’s coverage and podcast about “Dirty” John Meehan, the anthology’s first season will center on Meehan and his relationship with Debra Newell (Britton), whom he meets on an over-50 dating site. “The drama will tell the story of how Newell’s romance with Meehan spiraled into secrets, deception, denial and, ultimately, survival — with shocking ramifications for not just her, but her children,” THR details.

Alexandra Cunningham (“Desperate Housewives”) will pen “Dirty John” and serve as EP. The series hails from Universal Cable Productions, Los Angeles Times Studios, and Atlas Entertainment. No word on a premiere date yet.

Britton received two Emmy nominations for portraying the wise, no-nonsense Tami Taylor on small town drama “Friday Night Lights.” She also scored Emmy nods for her turns in “American Horror Story” and “Nashville.” Britton starred in the former’s first season and on the latter from 2012 to 2017. Her latest TV gig, Ryan Murphy’s emergency drama “9-1-1,” just wrapped its first season. Britton signed on for just one season of the series, but could return for Season 2.

“SMILF” and “American Crime Story” are among Britton’s other TV work. Her upcoming films include Nicole Holofcener’s “The Land of Steady Habits,” which centers on a man in the throes of a mid-life crisis, and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre’s “Mustang,” a drama about a violent criminal who trains horses as part of his rehabilitation.
