Elizabeth Heldens’ Vampire Drama “The Passage” Gets Pilot Pickup at Fox

Elizabeth Heldens: WME

The vampire craze isn’t over just yet. There’s still a demand for shows and films about the undead, and Fox is looking to satiate bloodthirsty viewers. The network has ordered a pilot for “The Passage,” an adaptation of Justin Cronin’s best-selling book trilogy, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. Elizabeth Heldens (“Friday Night Lights”) is penning the drama and co-executive producing.

“‘The Passage’ begins as a character-driven government conspiracy thriller and morphs into a post-apocalyptic saga with vampires,” THR writes. “The potential series spans over a century and focuses on a young girl named Amy who must save the human race.” This summary is giving us “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” vibes, and that’s something worth celebrating.

The project hails from 20th Century Fox Television, where Heldens has an overall deal. When she signed the contract last year, TCFTV President of Creative Affairs Jonnie Davis described her as a “fantastic, soulful, gifted writer who has the unique dexterity to write both comedy and drama, often in the same scene.”

Helden’s credits include “Camp,” “Deception,” and “Mercy.”
