Exclusive: Mother-Daughter Conflict Reaches a Boiling Point in “Beauty Mark” Clip

“Beauty Mark”

“You’re living in a dreamworld,” Angie (Auden Thornton, “Elementary”) tells her mother Ruth Ann (Catherine Curtin, “Orange Is the New Black”) in an exclusive clip from “Beauty Mark.” The confrontation has clearly been brewing for years. And now it’s at a boiling point. “My whole life you’re just sitting around pretending, thinking some other life is happening — some big party out there that you can dance the night away at when I’ve been here the whole time and you’ve never done nothing,” Angie accuses.

When Ruth Ann insists that she put food in her daughter’s belly and a roof over her head, Angie is quick to identify what she wasn’t provided with.

“Beauty Mark” sees the two women in particularly tough times. They discover that the house they’ve been living in along with Angie’s three-year-old son is condemned and they must move immediately. Making matters even more complicated, Ruth Ann is an alcoholic and the clip suggests that Angie is dealing with serious depression.

The Louisville-set drama is based on a true story. “With her family being forced out, and only 65 dollars to her name, [Angie] has to get the money from the only person she knows with any — the man who abused her as a child,” the film’s official synopsis details.

Written and directed by Harris Doran (“I Love You… But I Lied”), “Beauty Mark” will make its world premiere at the LA Film Festival tomorrow, June 16.
