“Good Girls Revolt” Unable to Find New Network After Cancellation

“Good Girls Revolt”

Sadly, “Good Girls Revolt” won’t be coming back. After Amazon cancelled the show at the end of Season 1, its creators tried desperately to find a new home for the historical series. But, as executive producer and creator Dana Calvo revealed on Instagram, they were unsuccessful.

“‘Good Girls Revolt’ won’t be airing on another network,” she wrote. “We made what felt like a 10-hour play, and I will miss the world and the characters that our cast brought to life. Mostly, I will miss hearing from all of you who said it had an impact. Sending love and thanks today for the privilege of being able to tell stories that bring us closer and make us stronger,” she shared.

Inspired by Lynn Povich’s book of the same name, the story, set in 1969, followed a group of female researchers, writers, and journalists who filed a landmark sexual discrimination case. It starred Genevieve Angelson, Anna Camp, and Erin Darke and included other real life figures, such as Eleanor Holmes Norton (Joy Bryant), Nora Ephron (Grace Gummer), and Wick McFadden (Jim Belushi).

When it premiered back in October, Women and Hollywood wrote that “Good Girls Revolt” “excels in its ability to expand its lens to include so many different stories and perspectives, and it doesn’t paint all men as bad guys or sexists,” and that “it couldn’t possibly be premiering at a better time, what with its message about the historical things that can happen when women band together.”

When the news of the cancellation hit, we participated in the #savegoodgirlsrevolt campaign, but everyone’s efforts seem to have failed. It’s incredibly sad that fans, producers, showrunner, and creator couldn’t save this show, especially in this political climate where sexism is rampant and female-centric entertainment is constantly threatened or simply unproduced. We can only hope that Calvo and the team are able to get another amazingly feminist series up and running soon, and that the #savegoodgirlsrevolt campaign inspired more people to check out the show.
