How You Can Be Involved in Women and Hollywood’s 10th Anniversary

2017is the 10th anniversary of Women and Hollywood. We spend every day putting out information that we believe people need to know about how women are treated in the entertainment business. Lots of that information is depressing. We wish that we could say that over this decade of educating, advocating, and agitating for gender equality in Hollywood and the global film industry that things have gotten significantly better for women. They haven’t. It’s going to take a lot longer until we become equal citizens in Hollywood.

But, while we continue to push (and we will as long as we are around) we also need to celebrate the successes. In the last decade a woman has won an Oscar for Best Director and a woman has directed a blockbuster superhero movie.

Women and Hollywood wouldn’t be anything without the people who read us on all our platforms every day. We are an independent initiative that is not owned by a multinational company. We aren’t focused on traffic or clickbait. I just want to remind people that even though we do not charge you to read the site or cause your computer to slow down or force you to watch a video, it costs money to create and deliver content. We pay people to provide the content you read. And because we are free and independent, we are indebted to our philanthropic sponsor and to people who donate money. If you want to be a part of supporting Women and Hollywood financially, click here.

We will be celebrating with several events this fall in NY, LA, and London. Sign up here to get on the invite list. The events are open to the public. (There will be a fee to attend.)

We know that many of you are not in the cities where we will be having the events, so we are creating another way to be involved. Please contribute a short video to our new initiative — What Does Women and Hollywood Mean to You.

Some people have read the site since the beginning. Some people have been inspired to become filmmakers. Some people have been inspired to write academic papers. I have heard so many stories. I want you to share them.

We will be looking at all the videos and will edit a piece for the events which will also be posted on the site. The video will be a compilation of our readers’ thoughts and feelings about Women and Hollywood. Please participate. Let us know how you feel about our work.

The video must be digital and two minutes or under. It is free to submit.

You can submit a video and find more information here. The deadline to submit is August 6. Please spread the word. Thank you.
