Isabelle Huppert and Chloë Grace Moretz to Topline “The Widow”

Isabelle Huppert in “Elle”

Isabelle Huppert and Chloë Grace Moretz are joining forces. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actresses have signed on to star in “The Widow,” a thriller about a young woman (Moretz) who is new to Manhattan and dealing with the absence of her late mother. She forms a friendship with an older widow (Huppert) who turns out to have sinister intentions.

Written by Ray Wright (“The Crazies”) and directed by Neil Jordan (“The Brave One,” “Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles”), “The Widow” is being launched at Cannes Film Market, which kicks off May 17. Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (“The Age of Adaline”) is among the project’s producers.

Huppert earned great acclaim — and many awards and nominations, including an Oscar nod — her for performance in 2016’s controversial rape-revenge thriller “Elle.” Her other recent credits include “Things to Come,” “Louder than Bombs,” and “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.” Huppert has a number of films set for release in 2017 including Anne Fontaine’s “Marvin,” the story of man who runs away from his hometown and family after being stigmatized for being gay. He ends up writing a hit stage play based on the experience.

Mortez recently appeared in “Brain on Fire,” “The 5th Wave,” and “The Clouds of Sils Maria.” Among her upcoming projects is “The Miseducation of Cameron Post,” a coming-of-age LGBTQ film co-starring “American Honey” breakout Sasha Lane that’s written and directed by “Appropriate Behavior’s” Desiree Akhavan.
