Jennifer Lopez Makes History as UN Advocate for Girls and Women

Multi-talented Jennifer Lopez can add an impressive new title to her stacked resume: The “American Idol” judge has been named the United Nations Foundation’s first-ever Global Advocate for Girls and Women.

Lopez’s first event as a Global Advocate was the UN Foundation’s Gender Equality Discussion held last Friday in New York. “The Boy Next Door” star shared an image from the event on Instagram, which she captioned, “I will be able to use my voice to bring attention and awareness to important issues such as #healthcare for mothers #visibility for all women and #genderequality with the goal of making sure woman all over the world are #SHEE Safe, Healthy, Educated and Empowered! It is my honor and I am humbled to be given this privilege.”

In 2009, Lopez and her sister Lynda founded the Lopez Family Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making quality health care more accessible to women and children.

This isn’t the first time Lopez has made history. The singer-actress-author-dancer-producer-fashion designer was the first Latina actress to receive a film paycheck exceeding $1 million (for 1998’s “Out of Sight”).
