Jill Soloway Producing Women’s Rodeo Drama for Amazon

Jill Soloway is teaming up with Amazon again. The “Transparent” creator will produce a limited series about a women’s rodeo alongside Andrea Sperling for Amazon’s streaming platform, Deadline reports.

According to the source, the drama series will be set in 1942. “While the men are away fighting during World War II, women in small-town Texas form the first All Girl Rodeo, riding to unprecedented fame and fortune — as long as they can hold on,” the synopsis details.

The series is written by Cassie Pappas and executive produced by Soloway and Sperling under their Topple Productions banner, which has an overall deal with Amazon Studios.

Pappas has previously written episodes of Lauren Iungerich’s “Awkward,” “Tyrant,” and “Hostages.” She will also pen the script for the reboot of “Road House,” the 1989 cult classic starring Patrick Swayze and Kelly Lynch.

The all-women rodeo series marks Soloway’s fifth project with Amazon. The Emmy-winner is exec producing a musical comedy about a woman seeking love and self-discovery; developing “Ten Aker Wood,” a film about a woman leaving her troubled marriage to work on a marijuana farm; and created “I Love Dick” starring frequent collaborator Kathryn Hahn. The first season of “I Love Dick” arrives May 12. The premiere date for the upcoming fourth season of “Transparent” has yet to be announced.

As if she wasn’t busy enough, Soloway is also the keynote speaker at this year’s SXSW festival (March 10–19). The “Afternoon Delight” writer-director has a history of bringing the house down with her passionate speeches — this is the woman who demanded we “Topple the patriarchy!” when she won an Emmy for directing, afterall — so we can’t wait to hear what she has to say.
