Kate Winslet To Play War Photographer Lee Miller on the Big Screen

Back in March, we reported that Jennifer Lawrence will play war photographer Lynsey Addario in an upcoming adaptation of Addario’s bestselling memoir “It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War.” Tuesday brought news that another Academy Award-winning star will bring the life of a female war correspondent to the big screen: Kate Winslet is set to portray American photographer Lee Miller in an as-yet-untitled movie.

Miller began her career as a model in New York. She later became an artist who collaborated with Picasso before finding her way to photography. Miller’s work behind the camera included serving as a correspondent for Vogue, where she published photos documenting the events and effects of WWII, including the London Blitz and concentration camps.

The drama will be based on “The Lives of Lee Miller,” a biography written by Miller’s son, Antony Penrose. Penrose has given producers full access to Miller’s original photographs and diaries.

The Guardian reports that producers are “now on the hunt” for a screenwriter to adapt the book. A director hasn’t been attached to the project.

Winslet is getting awards buzz for her performance in “Steve Jobs,” which is currently in limited release and will open nationwide October 23.
