Liz Feldman’s “Dead To Me” Gets Series Order from Netflix

Liz Feldman’s latest project has landed at Netflix. The streamer gave a series order to dark comedy “Dead To Me” in a “competitive situation,” Deadline reports.

Centering on an unlikely friendship between “a tightly wound widow and a free spirit with a shocking secret,” the 10-episode series is penned by Feldman, whose credits include “2 Broke Girls,” “One Big Happy,” and “The Ellen Degeneres Show.”

Feldman is among the project’s executive producers. “Dead To Me” hails from Gloria Sanchez Prods. and CBS TV Studios. She has an overall deal with the latter.

“[Liz has] been on broadcast shows for us, but she had a passion project that she came in with. I still remember the first time I heard the pitch for [‘Dead To Me’] because it came in totally formed, and I think I let my notebook drop on the floor because it was just such an incredible story,” CBS TV Studios head of comedy Kate Adler told Deadline back in January. “She told a really dark comedy that I would probably best describe as a comedic ‘Big Little Lies.’ It was a plot-driven, really dark comedy that was clearly not meant to be on network, it was clearly destined for premium cable, or streaming.”

Feldman is the host of “This Just Out With Liz Feldman,” billed as a “super low budget, ridiculous DIY chat show featuring interviews with some of the most visible and beloved lesbians.”

The two-time Emmy winner has said that she loves working in television “because outside of being a politician (which seems like a nightmare) and being a public advocate, how else do you create or try to manifest any change? I feel like television does it first, which is amazing,” she explained in 2015. “I feel like there’s a natural evolution on TV for the LGBT movement. We skipped over the ‘L,’ we went to the ‘G’ and we skipped over the ‘B’ and are getting to the ‘T.’ I think Americans are an amazing audience because they are generally receptive to new ideas. People are thirsty for fresh voices and stories they don’t hear all the time. I think audiences want to feel represented. We have a very diverse nation, and you want to watch TV and feel like some part of you is being represented.”
