Mae Whitman and Kathleen Rose Perkins to Star in NBC’s “Good Girls” Pilot

Mae Whitman in “Parenthood”: NBC

“Parenthood’s” Mae Whitman may be heading back to NBC. Deadline reports that the actress has joined the cast of “Good Girls,” a new drama pilot at the network from “The Family” creator Jenna Bans. She’ll star opposite Kathleen Rose Perkins (“Episodes”) in the project, which explores what happens when fed up wives and mothers decide to change their lives and hatch a wild plan that may result in serving time.

“Good Girls” centers on “three ‘good girl’ suburban wives and mothers who suddenly find themselves in desperate circumstances and decide to stop playing it safe, risking everything to take their power back,” Deadline summarizes. “The ringleader of the group is Beth (Perkins), a frazzled mom who is beginning to realize she got the short end of the stick when her husband Dean (Matthew Lillard, ‘Halt and Catch Fire’) has an affair. Dispirited, angry, and fed up with her life, Beth decides that it’s time to stop playing it safe and robs a supermarket along with her best friend Ruby and her younger sister Annie (Whitman), a single mom who, terrified of losing her son in a custody battle, agrees to the store robbery in the hope that she might come away with enough money for a good attorney.”

No word on who will join Whitman and Perkins as the third “good girl.”

Dean Parisot (“Grace and Frankie”) will direct the pilot. Bans, who has written episodes of “Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Desperate Housewives,” will pen the script and executive produce.

“Parenthood’s” last episode aired on NBC back in January of 2015. Whitman played Amber Holt — the rebellious daughter of Lauren Graham’s character, Sarah Braverman — in the series. Her other credits include “Operator,” “The DUFF,” and “Arrested Development.”

Perkins most recently appeared in USA Network’s “The Colony.”
