Margot Robbie to Play A Trapeze Artist in “Queen of the Air”

Margot Robbie in “Suicide Squad”

Margot Robbie is putting aside her “Suicide Squad” sledgehammer and joining the circus. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Robbie is attached to star as a trapeze artist in “Queen of the Air,” Warner Bros.’ adaptation of a 2013 non-fiction book of the same name.

Robbie will play Lillian Leitzel, an internationally renowned circus performer in the early 20th century famed for a signature move that necessitated dislocating her shoulder. THR summarizes, “Her tragic love affair with Alfredo Codona, who may have been one of the best trapeze artists to ever flip under the big top, also was chronicled. The two were tempestuous artists, divas, and madly in love.”

Cat Vasko penned the script for “Queen of the Air,” and a director has yet to be named. The project is being overseen by Niija Kuykendall.

Critics panned “Suicide Squad,” but bad reviews haven’t stopped the superhero movie from lighting up the box office and setting records. While fans and critics are divided, the popular consensus among all is that Robbie turned in an standout performance as Harley Quinn, a psychiatrist who falls for the Joker. The skills Robbie learned while prepping for “Suicide Squad” will no doubt help her in this role as well: Harley Quinn has a background as a gymnast, a fact evident in the film.

You can catch Robbie in another blockbuster currently in theaters, “The Legend of Tarzan.” Her many upcoming projects include a Harley Quinn spin-off, a Tonya Harding biopic, and “Goodbye Christopher Robin,” a behind-the-scenes look at A.A. Milne, the writer behind “Winnie the Pooh.”
