Megan Ellison Developing Series About the 2016 Election

Mega-producer Megan Ellison is set to team up with frequent collaborator Mark Boal for a series about the recent presidential race, Deadline reports.

Ellison and Boal describe the project as an eight to 10-hour political drama. There is no broadcast partner yet, but the two plan “to develop the series through Boal’s Page 1 company, in which Ellison is a partner,” Deadline details. Boal will write and direct, with Ellison presumably serving as producer.

Ellison recently received the Producers Guild’s Visionary Award. “There is so much power within these walls, and the ability to effect real change. The scariest thing we could do now, or ever, is shut up,” she said as she accepted the honor. “We are some of ones who have the power to share stories of meaning. We need to share that power with those [who] will be most silenced and vulnerable.”

She added, “The only way I know of to safely handle power is to spread it around. So please share it.” Perhaps creating a series that sheds light on the events of the election and Trump’s upset is Ellison’s own way of spreading the power.

Ellison, who founded Annapurna Pictures, has produced dozens of projects since starting out in 2010. Her credits include “The Bad Batch,” “20th Century Women,” “Wiener-Dog,” “Joy,” “Her,” and “American Hustle.”

It was recently announced that Annapurna Pictures will launch “a full-service distribution and marketing operation.” Its first release will be director Kathryn Bigelow’s “Untitled Detroit Project,” written by Boal and produced by Ellison. Ellison previously worked with Bigelow and Boal on “Zero Dark Thirty.”
