Melissa Harris-Perry is Heading to BET News

Melissa Harris-Perry is heading to BET News, Deadline has reported. Harris-Perry parted ways with her former network, MSNBC, after an email she wrote denouncing the network’s decision to preempt her weekend talk show for minor election coverage was leaked to The New York Times.

Deadline says that she’s signed on with BET News as a special correspondent and will host and contribute to various programs. She’ll also develop long form specials.

Back in February, after the incident with MSNBC, BET.com published a piece called “Thank you, Melissa Harris-Perry,” in which they wrote, “In no other space in cable news would we hear discussions on the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, politics and pop culture. Harris-Perry’s show was a relief from the agonizing, trite and predictable 24-hour sound bites on other programs. ‘The Melissa Harris-Perry Show’ is where you not only got the news, but you were pushed to see beyond your lens regardless of your background.”

Harris-Perry’s first assignment will be co-anchoring coverage of the Republican and Democratic Conventions later this summer.
