Nancy Meyers and Reese Witherspoon to Team Up for Workplace Comedy

Actress Reese Witherspoon is in talks to star in writer-director Nancy Meyers’ next project, a workplace comedy currently titled The Intern. (The name will probably be changed so as to avoid confusion with Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn’s Google-tainment flick The Internship.)

According to Deadline, Witherspoon and Robert De Niro are Meyers’ top picks for the project, which has a “young-meets-old” premise:

Witherspoon will play the founder of a highly successful fashion website who is prompted to take part in her company’s Senior Intern Program. She is assigned a 70ish widower who shows up with a suit and a briefcase. Turns out he ran his own successful business before retiring. What starts initially as a clash between old world and new world business values grows into something more as the intern becomes a mentor to the young entrepreneur.

Meyers’ last film was 2009’s It’s Complicated. Witherspoon had a supporting role in this summer’s Mud and will star in Atom Egoyan’s upcoming film about the West Memphis Three, Devil’s Knot. She is also currently shooting Wild based on Cheryl Strayed’s best selling memoir.
