Naomi Watts and Jessica Lange to Star in New Gia Coppola Film

Naomi Watts and Jessica Lange are teaming up to star in Gia Coppola’s “The Secret Life of the Lonely Doll.” The indie drama is based on Jean Nathan’s 2004 nonfiction book of the same name.

Nathan, a journalist, was inspired to track down Dare Wright, the author of the bestselling children’s book “The Lonely Doll.” Wright was a household name in the 1950s, but when Nathan investigated the author four decades later, she found her living an isolated existence in a public hospital in Queens, New York. Nathan devoted five years to figuring out just what happened in the eventful intervening years.

Presumably Watts will play Nathan, and Lange Wright.

Coppola made her feature directorial debut in 2014 with the high school drama “Palo Alto,” starring Emma Roberts and James Franco. The coming-of-age story received solid reviews, with many critics emphasizing Coppola’s promise as a filmmaker.

Watts appears in “The Divergent Series: Allegiant,” in theaters now. Lange currently stars in “Horace and Pete,” Louis C.K.’s new web series.
