NBC Gives Pilot Orders to Projects from Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling in “The Mindy Project”

Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling are set to produce more TV magic. NBC has given pilot orders to Fey’s “The Sackett Sisters” and an untitled project from Kaling, Deadline writes. Both are single-camera comedies produced by Universal Television and 3 Arts Entertainment.

“The Sackett Sisters” follows “two estranged sisters who perform a Sully Sullenberger-esque act of public heroism, then are forced to navigate their new found notoriety together,” Deadline reports. Fey will executive produce the project with frequent collaborator Robert Carlock, Luke Del Tredici, and David Miner. Written by Del Tredici (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), the project is produced by Fey’s Little Stranger.

Fey and Carlock have worked together frequently. The “30 Rock” alums created “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” on Netflix, and their “Great News” will premiere on NBC later this year. They also have three other pilots in the works: Fox’s “Cabot College,” ABC’s “Family Fortune,” and CBS’ “The Kicker.”

Kaling wrote her untitled pilot with her “Mindy Project” and “Office” colleague Charlie Grandy. According to Deadline, the comedy “centers on Vince, a charismatic gym owner with no ambition who lives with his younger brother Michael, a gorgeous idiot. Their simple life of women and working out is put on hold when the teenage son of Vince is dropped off on their doorstep by Priya (Kaling as a recurring guest star), one of his old high school flings.”

Kaling’s Kaling International banner is producing the project. Kaling and Grandy will executive produce with Howard Klein. The project was originally acquired by NBC as part of a put pilot commitment in October, the source notes.
