Olivia Munn to Star in Justine Bateman’s Feature Directoral Debut “Violet”

Justine Bateman has had great directorial success with her short works. “Five Minutes” debuted at last year’s Toronto Film Festival and is an official selection at next month’s Tribeca Film Festival. Now the actress-filmmaker is ready to make her first feature film, with actress Olivia Munn in the leading role.

According to Variety, “Violet” will follow Munn as a film executive who lives according to an internal voice, which will be played by Justin Theroux (“The Leftovers”). As she begins to question her own judgement, she realizes just how far astray this voice has led her. The film also features Anthony LaPaglia (“Without a Trace”) as her boss.

Bateman penned the script, and she will also be producing via her Section 5 banner. Filming is expected to begin sometime this spring.

Bateman earned two Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nod for her portrayal of Mallory Keaton in the ‘80s family sitcom “Family Ties.” She also starred in Joan Freeman’s “Satisfaction” and Illeana Douglas’ web series “Easy to Assemble.”

Munn’s credits include “Office Christmas Party” and HBO’s “The Newsroom.” She will appear in the upcoming female-led “Ocean’s 8.” Alongside Munn, the heist flick features Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Anne Hathaway, Awkwafina, and Rihanna. “Ocean’s 8” hits theaters June 8.
