Rebecca Miller Launches Production Company

Rebecca Miller: Beyond Cinema/YouTube

“Maggie’s Plan” writer-director Rebecca Miller has founded a production company with Damon Cardasis, one of the romantic comedy’s producers, Deadline has reported. “Maggie’s Plan” is the first film to be released under Miller and Cardasis’ Round Films banner. The feature stars Greta Gerwig (“Frances Ha”) as a young woman in a love triangle with a professor-aspiring novelist and his wife, an academic superstar (played by Ethan Hawke and Julianne Moore).

Miller’s credits include 2009’s “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” and 2005’s “The Ballad of Jack and Rose.”

Round Films already has a packed slate. Highlights of their upcoming projects include a TV adaptation of multi-talented Miller’s 2013 novel “Jacob’s Folly” and a Miller-directed HBO doc about her father, “Death of a Salesman” playwright Arthur Miller.

“We’re thrilled to be starting a company founded on respect for strong writing and singular storytelling in a variety of different genres,” Miller and Cardasis commented.

Miller has previously stated that there “is a fear of the woman protagonist” and we’re “[a]bsolutely still in an era where these types of movies aren’t seen as commercially viable.” We’re betting that Round Films recognizes that there’s a market for female-centric content and profits accordingly.

“Maggie’s Plan” is currently in theaters.
