Reese Witherspoon/Sofia Vergara Unnamed Film Directed by Anne Fletcher Targets Mother’s Day 2015 Release

Reese Witherpoon and Sofia Vergara will co-star in an unnamed buddy comedy directed by Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip, The Proposal, 27 Dresses). New Line Cinema/Warner Brothers will co-produce with MGM.

The film’s previous working title was Don’t Mess With Texas, a reference to the fact that the two central characters, played by Witherspoon and Vergara, who race through Texas trying to escape danger way. According to Deadline, the film with be “a combo of Midnight Run and The Heat,” with Witherspoon playing “an upright cop trying to protect the widow (Vergara) from a drug kingpin.” Witherspoon, of course, became a household name for her bubbly portrayal of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, but If you’ve seen Election, you know Reese Witherspoon can play uptight extraordinarily well.

Witherspoon is also serving as a producer on the film. She has a number of extremely promising features set for release in 2014 and 2015, including roles in Wild, an adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s hugely successful memoir, Paul Thomas Anderson’s eagerly anticipated Inherent Vice, and Disney’s Wishlist, which will be directed by Paul Feig. Vergara, a star of ABC’s Modern Family, can be seen in Jon Favreau’s Chef, which opened last weekend. Fletcher has been announced as the director of Enchanted 2.

The film is set to open Mother’s Day 2015 (May 8).
