Regina Hicks’ “Black Don’t Crack” Snagged by ABC, Viola Davis to Exec Produce

Davis in "How to Get Away With Murder"

A new comedy from “Insecure” writer and co-executive producer Regina Hicks has sold to ABC, Deadline reports. The multi-camera show about old friends counts Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis among its executive producers.

Written by Hicks, who also exec produces, the series follows “three former sorority sisters who lost touch after college [as they] reunite during a pivotal point in each of their lives and realize that now that they are of a certain age sometimes it’s okay to crack and no one will be there for you like your sisters,” the source summarizes.

Davis and Julius Tennon are exec producing through their production company, JuVee Productions, which has an overall deal with ABC Studios. Also exec producing is “Insecure” co-creator Larry Wilmore.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of this exciting project and to collaborate with the crazy talented Regina Hicks,” Wilmore said. “‘BDC’ is hilarious, heartwarming, and shines a light on women who are hiding in plain sight.”

“Sister, Sister,” “Girlfriends,” and “Camp Rock” are among Hicks’ previous credits.

Upcoming JuVee Production titles include Claire McCarthy’s period drama “The Personal History Of Rachel Dupree,” a biopic about trailblazing Texas Congresswoman and civil rights activist Barbara Jordan, and an HBO film about abolitionist Harriet Tubman, who helped hundreds of African-Americans escape slavery through the Underground Railroad. All three projects star Davis.
