“The Path” Co-EP Annie Weisman Signs Overall Deal With Universal TV

Annie Weisman: WME

“The Path” co-executive producer Annie Weisman has inked a two-year overall deal with Universal TV, Deadline reports. She’s written four episodes of the Hulu series starring Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”), Michelle Monaghan (“True Detective”), and Hugh Dancy (“Hannibal”). The show, created by Jessica Goldberg, centers on members of a fictional religion — or cult — known as Meyerism, and is currently in its second season.

Weisman has been working in TV for over a decade, and has penned episodes of series such as “About a Boy,” “Suburgatory,” “Samantha Who?” “Desperate Housewives,” and “Dead Like Me.” “This development season, Weisman wrote a legal dramedy project for Uni TV and Jason Katims’ studio-based True Jack Prods. In a competitive situation with three networks interested, the pitch had landed at CBS with a script commitment plus penalty,” Deadline writes. The hour-long as-yet-untitled project centers on two sisters with wildly different political beliefs who rally together to save their disgraced and imprisoned father’s law firm.

“We’re thrilled to be in business with a writer as versatile as Annie,” said Pearlena Igbokwe, President of Universal Television. “From her stints on ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Suburgatory’ to her stellar work on ‘The Path,’ she can do it all.”

Weissman is also an accomplished playwright. Her credits include “A Totally Meaningful Ritual,” “Hold Please,” and “Be Aggressive,” the latter of which was a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
