Tiffany Haddish Signs First-Look Deal With HBO

Haddish in “Girls Trip”

Whether she’s telling epic stories about a Groupon swamp tour, trying out different pronunciations of “Get Out” star Daniel Kaluuya’s name, or doing unmentionable things to a grapefruit, it’s clear that Tiffany Haddish knows how to entertain the hell out of audiences. HBO is banking on this fact. Shadow and Act reports that the premium cable network just signed the “Girls Trip” breakout to a first-look deal. The agreement sees the comedian developing new projects for HBO.

Haddish rose to fame thanks to her Oscar-worthy turn in “Girls Trip.” The ensemble comedy grossed over $140 million worldwide and scored Haddish a New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress. Late last year Haddish made history as the first black female stand-up comedian to host “Saturday Night Live.” Her recently released book, “The Last Unicorn,” is a New York Times best-seller.

“The Carmichael Show,” “Keanu,” and “If Loving You Is Wrong” are among Haddish’s previous credits. Her upcoming gigs include Andrea Berloff’s Irish mob story “The Kitchen” and GED exam comedy “Night School.” The latter sees her re-teaming with “Girls Trip” director Malcolm D. Lee.
