Toni Braxton Named Winner of the BMI President’s Award

Toni Braxton: ABC

Singer Toni Braxton is set to receive yet another trophy. The chart-topping singer has been named the 2016 recipient of the BMI President’s Award. She’ll accept her honor September 1 in Atlanta at the BMI R&B/Hip Hop Awards. The event is an invitation-only gala, and will pay tribute to Braxton and her 25 year career in the music industry.

Braxton is a seven-time Grammy winner whose many hits include “Un-Break My Heart,” “You’re Makin’ Me High/Let It Flow,” and “He Wasn’t Man Enough.” She’s sold over 50 million albums and singles. Though she’s most famous for her incredible pipes, Braxton is also a songwriter, producer, and pianist.

“We are proud to bring the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards to Atlanta for the first time to honor Toni Braxton,” said Catherine Brewton, BMI Vice President of Publisher Relations. “As one of the top-selling R&B artists of all time, combined with her philanthropic efforts, I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.” Braxton has supported organizations and charities such as Autism Speaks, Children’s Cancer & Blood Foundation, the American Heart Association, and the American Stroke Association. Past winners of the BMI President’s Award include Pink and Gloria Trevi.

Braxton participated in the seventh season of “Dancing with the Stars” in 2008. Earlier this year Lifetime aired “Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart,” a TV movie focused on Braxton’s career and personal life.
