Trailer Watch: A Girl Becomes a Warrior to Save Her Dad in Ava DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time”

“A Wrinkle in Time”

“You can’t keep using your father’s disappearance as an excuse to act out,” Meg (Storm Reid) is told at school in a new trailer for Ava DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time.” Rather than sulking and waiting for a miracle, Meg decides it’s up to her to save her scientist dad (Chris Pine) and takes along her younger brother (Deric McCabe) and friend (Levi Miller). The trio defy rules about time and space, and travel through the galaxy and dimensions. It’s not long before their epic adventure takes them to a trio of supernatural-seeming women.

“We heard a cry out in the universe … we believe [your father is alive] and we’re here to help you find him,” Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey) informs the kids. He’s trapped by an evil energy. Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon) explains that they’re looking for warriors “who serve the light and the good of the universe.” The only one who can stop the darkness is Meg. “Be a warrior,” Mrs. Which tells her.

An adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s beloved 1963 fantasy novel of the same name, “A Wrinkle in Time” hits theaters March 9, 2018. “Frozen” scribe Jennifer Lee penned the script.

DuVernay’s upcoming projects include a Netflix miniseries about the Central Park Five and a TV adaptation of Octavia Butler’s “Dawn.” Her previous features include “Selma” and “13th.” She created “OWN’s “Queen Sugar,” a family drama that just concluded its second season and will be returning for a third.
