Trailer Watch: Alicia Vikander Goes Dutch in “Tulip Fever”

Christoph Waltz and Alicia Vikander in “Tulip Fever”: The Weinstein Co.

Alicia Vikander’s star is continuing to rise. She just signed on to be the next Lara Croft in a “Tomb Raider” reboot, but before she hits the video game world, she’ll revisit a period drama once again. “Tulip Fever” marks her first starring role since her Academy Award win for Best Supporting Actress for “The Danish Girl,” which from the looks of the new trailer has a similar ambiance of lovely seriousness, gorgeous costumes, and potential tragedy.

“Tulip Fever,” based on Deborah Moggach’s novel of the same name, tells the story of a 17th century young woman in Amsterdam whose marriage to an older man (Christoph Waltz) leaves her wanting for more. When a young, handsome artist (Dane DeHaan, “Kill Your Darlings”) is commissioned to paint their portrait, seduction, and scheming, naturally follow.

Judi Dench and Cara Delevingne (“Paper Towns,” “Suicide Squad”) co-star.

“Tulip Fever” opens on July 15. Watch the trailer below:
