Trailer Watch: ‘Being Mary Jane’ Follows Up On Car-Crash Cliffhanger

Mara Brock Akil’s “Being Mary Jane” returns to BET just under a month from now, and a new trailer for season three of the popular melodrama has been released to tide fans over.

The three-minute spot begins where the last season left off — with Mary Jane (Gabrielle Union) involved in a serious car accident. The carnage isn’t limited to the scene of the crash: The drama shows no signs of slowing down at the hospital or the network Mary Jane works as a reporter for. The spot touches on everything from infidelity (“Did you sleep with David?”) to parental regret (“I think I messed the girls up”) and politics (“I’m not interested in being the face of gay politics — I do foreign policy”).

Loretta Devine (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and singer-songwriter Jill Scott (“The №1 Ladies’ Detective Agency”) will appear in recurring roles this season.

Fun fact: In Season 2 of “Being Mary Jane,” 4 of the 10 episodes were helmed by Sunday’s Emmy winner Regina King.

Season 3 premieres on BET on October 20 and airs Tuesdays 9/8c.
