Trailer Watch: Drew Barrymore is a Charming Zombie in “Santa Clarita Diet”

“Santa Clarita Diet”

Netflix’s “Santa Clarita Diet” sees two-time Emmy nominee Drew Barrymore playing Sheila Hammond, a real estate agent, mother, wife, and zombie — or as her son prefers to describe her condition, “dead and also undead.” “I don’t like that word [zombie] — I think it’s inherently negative,” he explains in a newly released trailer for the series.

Few have the ability to make a flesh-eating creature charming, but Barrymore’s Sheila is just that, whether she’s munching on raw ground beef, savoring a severed arm, or speaking candidly about her newfound condition. “I do like the way I feel,” she admits in the spot. “I have endless energy and I sleep two hours a night. I get so much done.”

It’s going to take Sheila and her family time to adjust, but it looks like her kids and husband are committed to remaining by her side.

Check out the NSFW trailer for some hints about how Sheila became a zombie, and to see how the Hammonds plan to manage her illegal — and immoral— tastes. “The Santa Clarita Diet” hits Netflix February 3. Timothy Olyphant (“Justified”) co-stars.

Barrymore is one of the series’ executive producers. Her recent acting credits include “Miss You Already,” “Blended,” and a guest spot on “Odd Mom Out.”
