Trailer Watch: Emilia Clarke Finds Unexpected Love in Thea Sharrock’s ‘Me Before You’

“Me Before You” sees Emilia Clarke switching gears from leading armies — and dragon sidekicks — in “Game of Thrones” to taking on the role of caregiver. Clarke plays Louisa, a chronically under- and unemployed woman who accepts a job caring for and offering companionship to a disabled man despite the fact that she has no experience in the field.

A newly released trailer for the film reveals that Louisa and William, the quadriplegic man (Sam Claflin, “The Hunger Games” franchise) she’s hired to assist, do not form an immediate bond. “He hates me,” Louisa complains to a friend. “Everytime I speak he looks at me like I’m stupid.”

But it’s not long before William is complimenting Louisa’s footwear and asking her to stay in his room and entertain him with stories.

The two fall in love, but William doesn’t seem to have much time left. He explains that he promised his parents six months and has given them that. “That was before me,” interjects Louisa, begging him not to give up on life.

Directed by Thea Sharrock (“Call the Midwife”) and written by Jojo Moyes, “Me Before You” opens June 3.
