Trailer Watch: It’s the Same Old Selina in the New Season of “Veep”

“Veep”

You can take Selina Meyer out of the White House, but you can’t take the White House out of Selina Meyer. And thank god for that.

In the opening moments of the full trailer for “Veep’s” new season, Selina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is half-assing her way through a morning show interview. For a brief second it looks like the former president might have let last season’s gut punch of a defeat get the better of her.

But soon all is right with the world: “Congressman Ryan!” she sing-songs to everyone’s favorite punching bag, Jonah (Timothy Simons). “I want to let you know that I will destroy you in ways that are so creative, they will honor me for it at the Kennedy Center.” It’s always a treat to see pint-sized Selina verbally take down the so-called “Jack and the Giant Jackoff.” Whatever revenge she has in store for Jonad is sure to be sweet.

Elsewhere, the HBO comedy’s latest clip confirms Anna Chlumsky will return as Selina’s former chief of staff and campaign manager, Amy Brookheimer. And we’re pleased to say she also hasn’t lost her acid tongue. “We are going to make Buddy Calhoun the next governor of this dry coyote turd of a state,” she announces of Matt Oberg’s character, introduced last season. “So saddle up those emphysema tanks, you inbred cousin fuckers!”

Check out the full trailer below to see Selina interact with Kent and Ben (Gary Cole and Kevin Dunn), pose for a portrait, and somehow make a visit to a refugee camp all about her.

Season 6 of “Veep” premieres April 16 on HBO.
