Trailer Watch: Jennifer Lawrence Has Unwelcome House Guests in “mother!”

“mother!”

A trailer has finally landed for Jennifer Lawrence-starrer “mother!” Details about the highly anticipated pic have been kept under tight wraps, but the tense, creepy spot helps to give an idea of what to expect from the genre-bending film. And what we can expect is something pretty bonkers.

“We spend all our time here. I want to make it paradise,” Lawrence’s character says of the house she shares with her husband, played by Javier Bardem. The pair seem to be enjoying marital bliss until a man (Ed Harris) shows up at the door and Bardem doesn’t hesitate to invite him in to stay. “He’s a stranger. We’re just going to let him sleep in our house?” an incredulous Lawrence asks. But that’s exactly what they do. And then the man’s wife (Michelle Pfeiffer) comes knocking on their door as well.

Lawrence makes a shocking discovery when she looks into the strangers’ luggage, but her husband is more disturbed by her nosiness than what she finds. It seems like he has secrets and they aren’t going to stay hidden for long.

As the drama with the couples escalate — and even more folks drop by — the house itself seems to be sending Lawrence warnings with blood and fissures in the wall.

Written and directed by Darren Aronofsky (“Black Swan”), “mother!” will make its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and hits theaters September 15.
