Trailer Watch: Jessica Brown Findlay Enchants in “This Beautiful Fantastic”

“This Beautiful Fantastic”

“Downton Abbey’s” Jessica Brown Findlay takes on the role of a reclusive aspiring author in “This Beautiful Fantastic,” for which a trailer has just been released. Findlay plays Bella Brown, and according to the spot’s voiceover narration, “There was nothing normal about the girl. She grew into the oddest of oddballs. Just her and her books.” So it comes as no surprise that Bella dreams of writing children’s literature, and offering other young readers sanctuary through stories.

Described as a “contemporary fairy tale,” “This Beautiful Fantastic” takes place in an unlikely setting — a shabby, depressing-looking garden. Bella is forced to deal with her neglected backyard or face eviction by her landlord. “Plants and I don’t really get along, so it’s not really neglect,” Bella explains. “It’s more of a fear and loathing.” The unwelcome project has the unlikely effect of bringing Bella and her cranky neighbor (Tom Wilkinson, “Denial”) together, and the two gradually form a friendship.

Findlay stars in “Harlots,” Hulu’s upcoming period drama set in a brothel. The eight-part series was written, directed, and produced exclusively by women.

Written and directed by Simon Aboud (“Comes a Bright Day”), “This Beautiful Fantastic” hits theaters March 10. Check out the trailer below.
