Trailer Watch: “Lady Dynamite” Loses Her Mind and Makes a TV Show

Maria Bamford in “Lady Dynamite”: Netflix

Sometimes you have to lose your mind to find yourself. Or so Maria Bamford (“Adventure Time”)has learned, and is so expressed in her upcoming Netflix comedy, “Lady Dynamite,” for which a new trailer has been released.

The mockumentary-style, 12-episode series is based on Bamford’s actual life. As we can see in the trailer, success, fame, and the demands of working in Hollywood can get to anyone. But coming back from that can make for one funny television series.

As Netflix states, “Lady Dynamite” is “the semi-autobiographical, semi-surreal series is a truthful look at the highs and lows of Bamford’s life — as an actor on the rise, during her hospitalization for bipolar disorder, and through her present life in LA, where she’s reached a middle ground and found love.”

The series co-stars Ana Gasteyer (“Saturday Night Live”), Lennon Parham (“Playing House”), and Fred Melamed (“A Serious Man”). It premieres on Netflix on May 20.
