Trailer Watch: Pioneering DJ Can’t Stay in ‘Eden’ Forever in Mia Hansen-Løve’s Latest

“I’ll be a DJ. I’ll be rich.”

The trailer for Mia Hansen-Løve’s followup to 2011’s “Goodbye First Love” begins with this bold pronouncement from Paul, an ambitious and talented DJ who also seems to be attracted to the decadence associated with the clubby lifestyle: late nights, hard partying, women, booze and drugs that keep the good times rolling. “Eden,” which charts Paul’s life for twenty years, is based on the experiences of Sven Hansen-Løve, the director’s brother and co-writer on the project.

“Eden” is one of the first movies about being a DJ and sees Paul trying to get artistic recognition in a field that’s so new that many people don’t even really understand what it is — nevermind see it as an art form.

The atmospheric spot for the film pulls you into the seductive world of blinding strobe lights and throbbing bass, but its dark undertones suggest that the party can’t last forever.

Greta Gerwig co-stars in the film, which opens June 19.
