Trailer Watch: Sarah Jessica Parker Demands a “Divorce” on HBO

“Divorce”: HBO

As the title of “Divorce” warns, the new HBO show is not going to offer a storybook romance. A trailer has dropped for the eagerly-awaited Sarah Jessica Parker comedy series, and it doesn’t take long for the inevitable ball to drop: the clip kicks off with Parker’s character, Frances, telling her husband Robert (Thomas Haden Church, “Sideways”), “I want a divorce.” His dismissive response paints a picture of their relationship. “Are you drunk?” he asks incredulously.

But it looks like the couple is giving therapy a shot before they call it quits. Can they overcome his emotional affair and her distaste for his mustache? Only time will tell, though an official press release for the show hints that “making a clean break and a fresh start is harder than [Frances] thought.”

Parker last appeared on the small-screen for three episodes of “Glee.”

“Divorce” premieres on HBO this fall. The show was created by Sharon Horgan (“Catastrophe”), who also wrote the pilot and will EP. As was the case with her HBO hit “Sex and the City,” Parker will not only star but take on EP duties. The other EPs on the series are Alison Benson, Paul Simms, and Aaron Kaplan. Parker and Church’s costars on “Divorce” include Molly Shannon (“Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,” “Saturday Night Live”) and Talia Balsam (“Mad Men”).
