Trailer Watch: Shailene Woodley Saves Chicago from Destruction in ‘Allegiant’

A new trailer for “The Divergent Series: Allegiant” has landed, and the question at the forefront of everyone’s mind seems to be what the purpose of borders are. Do they divide or protect? And whose interests do these boundaries serve?

Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Co. scale the wall around Chicago and are (seemingly) welcomed with open arms by the society on the other side. Inhabitants greet Four (Theo James) by name before they are introduced to him, so naturally, he asks how they can know who he is before meeting him. “Our surveillance technology is centuries ahead of anything you’ve known,” says their host. A more sinister — and accurate — answer would’ve been: “We’ve been spying on you.”

Tris is faced with yet another crisis — her most dramatic to date. She learns that there are plans for Chicago to be erased, and unless she can prevent that from happening, everyone she knows will die. She and her comrades return home, not to say goodbye, but to prepare for war.

“Allegiant,” the third and penultimate installment of the “Divergent” franchise, will open in theaters on March 18, 2016. Zoe Kravitz (“Mad Max: Fury Road), Maggie Q (“Nikita”) and Naomi Watts co-star.

The final film of the series, “Ascendant,” is slated for release on March 24, 2017.
